Saint Joan of Arc
Saint Joan of Arc was a teenaged peasant girl who led the French army to several important
victories during the Hundred Years' War. After she was captured by the Burgundians and sold to the English,
she tried by an ecclesiastical court, found guilty of heresy and burned at the stake. She was 19 years old.
Twenty-five years later she was declared a martyr and eventually canonized in 1920.
Joan of Arc is one of the patron saints of France and her feast day is May 30th, the anniversary of her death.
